Knicks Waive Corey Brewer and He Signs with the Mavericks

Brewer cleared waivers on Thursday and signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

Of course he is not expected to fill the gap that is missing by Caron Butler, who had a season ending injury, but Dallas expects Brewer to really help out defensively and potentially much more than that.

The deal is for an average $2 million over three years. Carlisle said other teams offered more money than the Mavs; Coming from Minnesota, Brewer said he just wanted to be on a winning team.

"He's different in terms of his body type than any guy that we have," Carlisle said. "He's a deceptively tall kid, has got long arms. I think probably his tenacity is as, or more, important than any of those other attributes."

No matter what, I don't think the Mavs will be disappointed in their decision to take on Brewer. He's a good young player and the Mavs definitely need more youth in their team. It was a great move for the franchise and he will only continue to get better.
