Dallas Starts the Second Half of the Season with a Win Over the Deronless Jazz

The Mavs took on the Jazz after they traded away Deron Williams to the Nets for Devin Harris and Derrick Favors. We knew from the start this wouldn't be too hard of a game without their star point guard playing as well as Harris and Favors not in the lineup yet; but we didn't know the Mavs would finish with their largest win deficit of the season, 118-99.

Earl Watson started in place of Deron Williams but did not play a good game at all. He had 7 points but went 3 for 11 from the field and 1 for 5 from the 3-point line.

The first quarter ended with Utah up 26-23, but the Mavs held onto the lead for the rest of the game.

Each team handled the ball sloppily as turnovers became an issue for both. Utah let Dallas score 23 points off of their 20 turnovers while Utah scored 24 points off the Mavs' 19.

Seven players scored in double figures for the Mavs. This was the 14th consecutive game where at least five players have scored 10 or more points.

Dirk Nowitzki, who passed Clyde Drexler for 23rd place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, led the team with 23 points and 7 rebounds.

In addition to Dirk, the others were: Peja Stojakovic with 18 points who went 7 of 9 from the field and hit four 3-pointers, Shawn Marion with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Jason Terry and JJ Barea both with 13 points, Brendan Haywood with 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and lastly Roddy Beaubois with 10 points and 4 assists.

For the Jazz, Jefferson led the team with 30 points, Millsap with 18, Kirilenko with 17, and Miles with 16.

Some Stat Facts: The Mavs shot better than 50% for the fifth straight. During this stretch, they have average 114.4 points and shot 54.9% from the field. In this game against Utah, they were 10 for 20 from the 3-point line.

After this game, the Mavs have won 14 of their last 15 games and 8 straight in Dallas. Utah has lost 5 straight and 14 of 18.

Next, the Mavs have a two day break before they go to Washington to play the Wizards.
