Mavs Draft Results

The Mavs, Blazers and Nuggets were involved in a 3-way deal:

Mavs receive: Rudy Fernandez (from Portland); rights to 07 draftee Petteri Koponen
Blazers receive: Raymond Felton (from Denver); rights to #57 pick Tanguy Ngombo (from Dallas)
Nuggets receive: Andre Miller (from Portland); rights to #26 pick Jordan Hamilton (from Dallas); future second-round pick (from Portland)

The Mavs also got the rights to Petteri Koponen. He's a point guard from Finland who has spent three years with Virtus Bologna in Italy.

Rudy Fernandez, 26 yrs old, has been apart of the Trailblazers for all 3 of his NBA seasons. He's averaged 9.1 points over 24.1 minutes in 218 games.

While Rodrigue Beaubois was injured, DeShawn Stevenson took over for the shooting guard starting position; now, Stevenson is a free agent. Roddy will be good to go next season and may take back his starting position but Fernandez could change that and find himself in the starting lineup or just add to Dallas' already deep bench.

Last season, Fernandez averages 8.6 points in the regular season but scored just 2.8 ppg in the first round series vs the Mavs; he made just 4 of 18 shots.

Where Fernandez will fit in exactly or  if he will definitely start will have to be worked out.

"Our decision was we wanted the best caliber player," Nelson said. "We got youth and experience. We kind of had an opportunity to have the cake and eat it too. And so that's what we went with."
